canvasses in the frame [ bournemouth portrait photography ]

It’s always exciting when deliveries arrive from the framing company.  Seeing images finished beautifully, printed on fine-art papers and framed by craftsmen is when you really get to know your photographs.  Simple black frames with white mats are the perfect way to display images.  Black and white photographs – my favourite! – really look their best in these frames.

The delivery today was extra exciting as it contained the first canvas I have received since changing suppliers.

Canvas prints have suffered with quality over the past few years which is why I stopped selling them for a while.  Cheaper canvasses can warp, sag, fade and flake – not good!  My framing company makes their canvas wraps with the same high quality and attention given to all of their products.  That is to say they are superb and I love canvasses again!

What sets these apart is the attention to detail and standard of materials used.  The canvas print is mounted on board before being stretched around the frame to maintain it’s strength and rigidity.  Framer’s tape gives a nice finish.

The corners can be a weak point with poor quality canvasses.  Not on these though – they are finished superbly.

All the frames and canvasses have these spacers on the lower corners so they hang evenly on the wall; another nice touch.

So I’m very happy with these products and to have an excuse to put some more photographs of Willoughby on the wall.  I’m often guilty of never getting round to printing my own images so this set is extra welcome.  And of course Mrs R is very happy with them as well.

Charlie & Mia [ portraits ]

Early starts are the best time for a full lifestyle photography session as the children are usually full of energy and excitement about what the day will bring.  Being in their own home, having breakfast and getting ready means they get relaxed and used to a photographer being around.  And it’s a chance for Mummy to get one more cup of coffee before the morning’s adventures.

We all had a fantastic morning.  Charlie was particularly impressed that I could speak the language of ducks!  All part of the service.

Getting images like this takes time, patience and energy – from everyone!  We started at 7:30am and didn’t finish until after 11.  A full lifestyle photography session is a bespoke service.  It’s fun for the children and produces photographs that will be enjoyed for years and loved by all the family.

It can be hard choosing what to do when you have a large selection of images.  Albums are great for this as a way to record a special day or event.  Canvasses and framed prints are still firm favourites for showing off those real favourites.  All my products are hand made and finished to perfection to make the most of your images.

Oli & Lou [ wedding ]

After such a fun engagement session, I was really looking forward the wedding of Oli & Lou in Bournemouth.  The rain might have threatened us a couple of times but we escaped most of it.  And anyway, when you’re having the best day of your life, a few raindrops won’t matter.

Oli & Lou are such a happy and welcoming couple and that was apparent in the friendliness and enjoyment of the day.  It was fantastic to be part of it and to produce their photography for them.  I have to pinch myself this is my job sometimes!  In the afternoon I was joined by fellow Dorset photographer and bacon fanatic Greg who made sure I didn’t fall off ladders (just!) and assisted in getting great unobtrusive relaxed shots.

Incidentally, you’ll notice from this set that I’m shooting much more for black and white.  I’ve always loved the simplicity of mono images and so much so lately I feel my style developing as such that I may make all my photographs this way.  I ran a poll recently on my facebook page and the overwhelming response was for black and white only.  As always, let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Eileen [ pregnancy ]

It is always special to create photography of pregnancy.  As with newborn photography, it is an amazingly magical time that deserves to be captured and recorded properly.  Parents love the images now and just think how great will it be to show these to baby when they are older?  Photos such as these become more valuable with time meaning bespoke photography is one of the best investments you can make.

I was especially excited when Eileen booked me to take photographs of her pregnancy as she and husband Jon are my good friends.  Eileen is very creative and had a few fun ideas for shots as well.  I’m always happy to try different things and it all came together perfectly for this set.  After viewing their images on the big screen in my studio, these were the final selection of images they chose which Eileen now has hanging on their wall.

Really exciting times for them both and I can’t wait to meet their little one in the next few weeks.
